Mountain View Missouri Is Located In Southern Missouri

The first white settler in what is now Howell County
was a hunter named Adams who settled at the "town spring" in 1839. The county prospered until the start
of the Civil War when it quickly became a hotbed
for raids.

Things slowly returned to normal after the war and the county was reorganized in 1866. Mountain View was also settled in 1866 by Green McClellan who built the first store in the area. He used what was called "klondyke" for money, which resembled the metal mills once used for paying sales tax.

Howell County, by 1873 saw the establishment of the area's first steam sawmill and steam flour mill.

The crown jewel of local events is Pioneer Days, which pays tribute to our Old West spirit. Another great event is the Cowboy Poet Festival, which showcases the Missouri Cowboy Poets Association and showcases cowboy poetry, humor and
Western music.

Mountain View is a perfect example of what
